Clare Tyas started drawing as a child and is inspired by the animals she has encountered in and around her parent's farm and in the countryside of the English Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales where she now lives. Her paintings and sketches capture the spirit and delightful personalities of the animals she paints; everyone has a special twinkle in its eye, and is painted to make you smile.

She also produces intricate townscapes, life stories, commissions and more abstract large landscape paintings, mainly of locations in Northern England and Scotland; these capture the character and unique identity of places dear to her, whether working in great detail to depict houses, streets and daily life in her townscapes, or evoking the mood of a dramatic vista.
